Completed in 1976. Last of the VW engines built by Ted Barker. A great flying airplane, however, anyone building one should consider a 2100 cc VW or equivalent.

The engine is strong and with a 60x34 prop climbs like an elevator on steroids sounding like an AT6. It's a hoot.

This VP turned out to be a fine performer - Normal cruise is 85 mph on a 56x36 homemade propellor - endless fun for the builder! Added a turtledeck to improve looks. Have pictures for those interested!

Really, just a large model plane! If you can build a wooden R/C model, you can build a VP-1.

This aircraft was orginally built by Lew Goodson, of Palmerston North, in 1978, who amassed some 300 hours on it. Since has had turtledeck, canopy and spats added by current owner, John Waugh, of Feilding, New Zealand, and has another 50 hours on it. Aircraft is pleasant/easy to fly and cruises at 80 knots ASI, 2800 rpm, stalls at 28 knots, but mushes from about 44 knots. Aircraft is still in mint condition, having mainly been flown on summer evenings and never in the rain or other doubtful weather. Pix available on request.

Aircraft is moving along well.Have added some changes to the aircraft. I have listed some mods etc at my website at http://volksplaneinfosite.homestead.com/Volksplane.html. I would also suggest that anyone that wants to build the VP, they should join the volksplane discussion group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/volksplane/.

Started construction not long ago but my job is keeping me away from home lately. Hotel owners don't like guest making sawdust in the rooms. This winter should see some progress. More info at http://www.wingsforum.com/. Forums on Volksplanes, Engines, etc. at http://www.wingsforum.com/.
