What Is The Homebuilt Homepage?
The Homebuilt Homepage is online information about Sport Aviation, in particular Homebuilt Aircraft. It is an index containing links to companies sites, information on companies that don't have their own web page, a list of builders and owners of Homebuilts that have an email address, design software, and much more.
This is a not-for-profit web site. There is no charge for links or listings. The Homebuilt Homepage is a volunteer project.
Status Of The Homebuilt Homepage
To find out what the current status is, please check out the top of the About The Webmaster page. Also the Homebuilders Directory has a date listed that indicates the date the latest update was submitted. If this date is after your submission, definitely send it again.
How New And Revised Icons Are Used
The marks and reflect the status of the link here on the Homebuilt Homepage. They have nothing to do with the site the link leads to. This is to make it easy to see what has been added to the section of the Homebuilt Homepage you're interested in.
Many companies don't have their own website, and have requested we carry their information for them here on the Homebuilt Homepage. On these links the icon also can refer to the information carried by us on the following page. Basically, these icons refer to the status of the Homebuilt Homepage, not outside websites.
On the Homebuilders Directory cover page you'll find the submission date of the most recent addition posted. If this is later than the date you sent your addition or update in and you don't see it posted please resend it.
The Origins & Philosophy Of The Homebuilt Homepage
My name is Michael Kraus, and I'm the Webmaster for the Homebuilt Homepage. I've maintained the original philosophy of free links and listings for anyone involved with Homebuilt Aviation in an easy to navigate index. The point is the information. Effects like animations, shockwaves and such just take up time to download that you could better spend finding the info you want. They don't belong in an index.
Kevin Walsh, (email address to the right,) then a student at M.I.T., created the Homebuilt Homepage as an index to Homebuilt Aviation on the net. Kevin put a great deal of work into the Homebuilt Homepage. He created a very valuable information resource for homebuilders worldwide. When he graduated he wasn't able to maintain it anymore. A company offered to take it over. But they wanted to make it a commercial affair. Kevin wanted the Homebuilt Homepage to stay free to both vendors and readers. |

That's where I came in. If you have any information to be added, corrections, updates, suggestions or comments please E-Mail to the address on the right. You can find more information about me on my personal web page at http://www.homebuilt.org/cmdrdata/. |

The original version of the Homebuilders Directory was created by Charles Crosby, (email address to the right.) Of course it was natural to put it on the Homebuilt Homepage. And it has evolved to it's present day format. |

What Are The Aircraft On The Title Page?
The Corsair that is part of the title graphic for the Homebuilt Homepage is the Corsair82. While the Corsair82 is not yet flying, it is the most promising Corsair kit design to come along yet. Their website is http://www.corsair82.com/. |
The canard aircraft on the right of the title is a Velocity RG. This is a four seat aircraft similar in appearance to the Rutan canard designs. However, there are several very similar looking designs. The AeroCanard is available in sixteen different subkits for no extra cost. And the Cozy Mark IV is a plans-built design. All are four seat canard designs with great performance. Their websites are http://www.velocityaircraft.com/, http://www.aerocad.com/, http://www.cozyaircraft.com/. |
If You Know Of A Homebuilt Related Website
If you know of a homebuilt related website that isn't listed here, please send it to me at the email address to the right. Most of the links here were suggested by individual homebuilders that found them as they cruised the web. Any link suggestions are welcome and appreciated, and that goes for non-homebuilt aviation related sites too.
How To Get Your Business Listed Here
The Homebuilt Homepage will list any website free of charge as long as it's in some way related to Homebuilt Aircraft, or Aviation in general.
For those that don't have a website the Homebuilt Homepage is happy to carry a page about any company free of charge, as long as it's in some way related to Homebuilt Aircraft. This, of course, won't be a fancy, CGI enhanced multi-media ad campaign. The Homebuilt Homepage only carries pictures and text. (A short digital video in QuickTime format would be acceptable. And small animated GIF files are fine as well.) But it will get you on the net and make you easier for Homebuilders to find.
To add or update a listing in the Kits & Plans section go to the Kits & Plans Addition Page.
To add or update a listing in the Vendors section go to the Vendors Addition Page.
About The Homebuilders Directory
This section lists people on the Internet that have built and/or are flying Homebuilt Aircraft. The Homebuilders Directory is the white pages of Homebuilt Aircraft. Owners and builders of Homebuilt Aircraft are listed by Vendor and Aircraft Model.
To be listed or to update your listing go to the Homebuilders Directory Additions Page.
On the Homebuilders Directory index page you'll find the submission date of the most recent addition posted. If this is later than the date you sent your addition or update in and you don't see it posted please resend it.
Classified Advertisements On The Homebuilt Homepage
The Homebuilt Homepage is happy to offer free Classified Advertisements. The main requirement is that they be related to Homebuilt Aircraft, Ultralights, or some form of Sport Aviation, including classic aircraft restorations. You can browse through the ads from the Classified Advertisements page. You can register to place your own ad there too.
The purpose of registering is to allow you to delete or edit your own ad without having to go through the Webmaster. All information provided is private, including your email address, unless you specifically select it to be displayed in the classifieds. (Your city and state are displayed in the detailed version of your ad to give people an idea of how far the item will have to be shipped.) Your information will not be sold or shared with anyone outside the Homebuilt Homepage.
The Classifieds section is powered by Active Web Suite Technologies, http://www.activewebsuite.com/, Active Classifieds CGI. The price is minimal, and the support is beyond belief. They installed the software on the Homebuilt Homepage site within an hour of our request. And our question to Support was answered in less an hour. We highly recommend them. Also, our thanks go to Rob Roll who suggested we try this CGI in the first place.
If You Don't See Your Information Posted Yet
If you don't see the update or addition you sent in posted on the Homebuilt Homepage yet, feel free to send a reminder. I don't get upset with reminders, I appreciate them. Hard Drives crash and people delete email by mistake. So feel free to send your request again. I always send a notification reply to emailed requests when they are added.
To find out what the current status is, please check out the About The Webmaster page. Also the Homebuilders Directory has a date listed that indicates the date the latest update was submitted. If this date is after your submission, definitely send it again.
How The Homebuilt Homepage Is Produced
The software used for all HTML editing on the Homebuilt Homepage is BBEdit by Bare Bones Software, Inc. This is an excellent text editor and has extensive features for Webmasters. However, you actually have to learn HTML to use this. But I highly recomend doing so. |
The email program used is Mail by Apple. Mail excels at handling multiple email accounts and large quantities of email. And it's much more stable than Thunderbird or Outlook. But most importantly, it is immune to the email viruses that plague those who use Outlook and Outlook Express. A Swiss Army knife has a lot of cool gadgets. But you'd never survive trying to cross a jungle using one. You need the tool made for the job, a machete. Many programs, like Outlook and Communicator, try to do everything, and do few or none of them well. Eudora just does email, and does it very well. |
Our hosting is done by PowerSurge Technologies. They are an experienced, lightning fast, extremely reliable Web Host. Over the years I've tried various "discount" web hosts to the grief of my website. The monetary difference is only a few dollars. The quality are reliability difference is immeasurable. It's worth it. Their servers have a redundant OC3 connection directly to the MAE-WEST backbone. I have happily been with PowerSurge for years. I offer discounted hosting with PowerSurge on the Homebuilt Hosting page.
